Welcome to the inaugural episode of The Rinse–a brand new drum & bass series profiling the week’s biggest tunes. Quite a bit of activity in the D&B space this week, including a debut from the newly signed RAM producer Bensley in addition to a few anniversary compilations coming by way of Noisia’s Vision imprint and Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s Technique Recordings. Read on to find out what your favorite D&B DJ will be spinning in the club this week. Enjoy!
Noisia – Incessant (Original Mix) [Vision]
An exclusive cut from Noisia’s commemorative compilation Ten Years Of Vision Recordings, Incessant represents all that is good in D&B. The tune stands out amongst ten years’ worth of gems from the Dutch trio’s imprint, which is no simple feat. An arpeggiated lead and wailing bass stabs make Incessant perhaps the most sinister tune birthed in 2015 so far. Fortunately for Noisia fans, there is another exclusive cut on the anniversary album called Reptilians featuring man-of-the-hour Mefjus and Hybris as collaborators. Make sure to pick up Incessant and the rest of this monstrous compilation right here on Beatport.
Bensley – Fandango (Original Mix) [RAM]
This week’s most surprising track comes by way of the mighty RAM Records, courtesy of the relatively unknown newcomer Bensley. Without a single track ever released, Bensley was signed straight away by RAM after auditioning his first demo. Needless to say, the world will be hearing a lot more of Bensley’s highly technical production, which is on display in his track Fandango. Pick it up on Beatport.
Ivy Lab – Live On Your Smile (El. Train Remix) [Critical]
The trio of Londoners professionally known as Ivy Lab broke major ground this week with their eclectic EP on Critical Music titled Twenty Questions. While the entire EP is a proper showcase of gnarly synthetics and blistering breaks juxtaposed against ambient pads and airy reverb, there are two stunning remixes tossed in from Sam Binga and fledgling Brighton producer El. Train. However, it’s El. Train’s remix of Live On Your Smile that drips copious amounts of soulful appeal. This half-time rhythm and grooving bassline will live on well beyond the cold months. Check out the entire Twenty Questions EP on Beatport by clicking here.
Spectrem – Say Goodbye (Original Mix) [Technique]
2014 marked the 15th year of Technique Recordings, and founders Drumsound & Bassline Smith commemorated the anniversary by dropping a massive 19-track album featuring production from Tantrum Desire, L Plus, and the label bosses themselves, among several others. Titled Say Goodbye, this upfront track from the compilation comes from rising Perth artist Spectrem. It was recently featured as the “Friction Fire” track on Friction’s D&B show on BBC Radio 1Xtra, so it has the Shogun Audio boss’ stamp of approval. To purchase Say Goodbye and check out the full tracklist of 15 Years of Technique, jump over to Beatport.
Smooth – Rollercoaster (Original Mix) [Viper]
Plucked from Smooth’s new EP, AA-side track titled Rollercoaster is a high-octane workout with a frenetic bassline and whipping breaks. Rollercoaster is flanked by an equally superb tune called The Black Hole, making this entire EP worth the price of admission. Smooth has been on a roll lately, having just notched two tracks on Viper’s all-star anniversary album Decade. Don’t expect the Slovenian producer to slow down in 2015. Rollercoaster is now available on Beatport.
