It’s time for a new episode of The Rinse, where we profile the best new drum & bass of the week. This week’s episode showcases some synapse-sizzling neurofunk from Phace, a guttural roller from Friction & Technimatic, and a jump-up heater from Serum. We also dive into RAM’s titanic RAMiami Drum & Bass 2015 for a second straight week, highlighting one of the compilation’s darkest tunes. As always, if we missed a track worth rinsing, let us know in the comments.
Culture Shock feat. Bryn Christopher – City Lights (Original Mix) [RAM]
First up is RAM artist Culture Shock, who after an extended hiatus from the studio, has blessed fans with two releases in a three-month span. His latest tune City Lights features the soulfully robust voice of Bryn Christopher, who is labelmates with the likes of Ellie Goulding and Lana Del Rey at Polydor Records. City Lights is a peak-time salvo constructed with room-filling synths and thick percussive elements–proper ingredients for a dancefloor smasher. This particular tune has been a weapon of choice for the mighty Andy C for many months and is finally available for public consumption. Grab City Lights from Beatport by clicking here.
Friction & Technimatic – Floating Frames (Original Mix) [Shogun Audio]
In what started last year, Friction’s “VS” series is back again with two huge collabs with Icicle and Technimatic. For those unfamiliar, Friction’s “VS” series is a collaborative project, pairing the Shogun Audio boss with high-profile producers of all sub-genres. This second volume features a neurofunk number with Icicle called Crucifix and a dark roller with streaking London duo Technimatic titled Floating Frames. Certainly a double-A-sided effort, either track could have made this week’s episode of The Rinse. Friction VS Vol. 2 is out right now via Shogun Audio and can be purchased right here on Beatport.
Loadstar – Under Pressure VIP (Original Mix) [RAM]
Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival is imminently approaching, and what better way to celebrate than loading up a full playlist of RAM tunes from the new RAMiami Drum & Bass 2015 compilation? The comp is massive, weighing in at 28 tracks, and also includes a full mix from recent RAM signees June Miller. The track appearing here is from longtime D&B vets Xample and Lomax, aka Loadstar. In what can only be described as “heavy,” Loadstar’s VIP rework of Under Pressure delivers an ample dose of gritty mid-bass synthetics on top of an unconventionally staggered rhythm. Pick up Under Pressure VIP and the full RAMiami Drum & Bass 2015 compilation right here on Beatport.
Serum – Here Today Gone Tomorrow (Original Mix) [Low Down Deep]
A huge EP from seasoned D&B producer Serum was recently released on Low Down Deep Recordings titled Tokyo, and it showcases the Londoner’s penchant for producing quality jump-up D&B. The track selected for this week’s Rinse is called Here Today and Gone Tomorrow, and is definitely one of the more subdued tunes on the raucous EP. Featuring a preponderance of sub-frequencies, Here Today supplies the bouncy cadence necessary to get the knees above the elbows on the dancefloor. Make sure to head over to Beatport to pick this tune and the rest of the Tokyo EP.
Phace – Digital Diet (Original Mix) [Neosignal]
If neurofunk had a pulse, Phace’s Digital Diet is what it would sound like. Off of his brand new album Shape the Random, Digital Diet pushes the envelope in both composition and fidelity, marrying perhaps the most perplexing sound design and avant garde musical structure Phace has ever produced. The album has 14 tracks of the same neuro-blistering beats and comes by way of Phace’s own Neosignal Recordings. Pick up Digital Diet and the rest of the Shape the Random album right here on Beatport.
